Use :
Natural dye – mordanting and nuancing any fibers : iron is the basis of all grey and black shades by reaction with natural tannins. In a general way, it is used to darken colours and make them deeper. It slightly improves light- and wash-fastness from those obtained with aluminum mordants. Recommended use at 1-3 % of the Weight Of Fiber (WOF). A higher % may alter the structure of proteinaceus fibers and make them breakable.

For grey and black shades, we also recommend to use our extracts of logwood, oak gallnut, sumach gallnut, tara, acacia. The best results will be obtained with combinations of these extracts.

Also, combinations of aluminum and iron mordants or a last (very light) iron bath after a aluminum-mordanted-colour will widely increase the number of shades.

Use :
Natural dyeing – mordant recommended for cellulosic fibers : This mordant is used in the same way and in the same proportions as aluminum acetate for the natural dyeing of cellulosic fibers. Its solubilization is complete at room temperature. The colors obtained are intense.

As a preliminary step, we also recommend a first bath of a low coloured tannin (oak gallnut, sumach gallnut or tara) or with a tannin that will bring a light background color (acacia, myrobalan, chestnut).

Uses :
Natural dyeing – mordent for cellulosic fibers and leather :
Titanium oxalate is mentioned in several books as a mordant for dyeing cotton and leather.
It provides a better fixation of natural tanins and bright oranges (for instance with the oak gallnut extract or sumac gallnut extract or the tara extract). In combination with natural dyes, you will get new ranges of shades, especially bright oranges with yellow natural dyes (for instance with the weld extract).
By creating stronger complexes between the fibers and the dyes, titanium mordent contributes to better lightfastness and washfastnesses.
Titanium salts are currently extensively developed in replacement of chromium salts for environmentally friendly titanium-tanning techniques.

The plant :
Madder is one of the oldest dye plants used. Its scientific name means “dyer’s red”. It was well known and classified as “Grand teint” for its good lightfastness. The words “rouge garance” and “garance” entered the current French vocabulary.

Native from the Middle East, it was introduced in Europe since the Antiquity where it was intensively grown in several areas from the Middle Ages, as Flanders, Holland, the North, East and South of France where it brought prosperity at these times.

Use :
Textile printing : the guar gum is the most common natural thickener for textile printing pastes (used with stamps, screenprinting, brush…).

Other uses : thickening and stabilizing in numerous industrial applications (paper, pharmacy, cosmetic), the biggest being food industry.
